We have 3 days to get to Camden Haven for the week of golf at Kew Country Club. So we head inland and south via the New England and Oxley Highways with 3 overnight stops at free camps at Toowoomba, Guyra and Apsley Falls. Apsley Falls is on our favourites list since we stayed there last year. As a matter of interest take a look at the 2 photos of the different water flows from the 2 years.
Cania Gorge is a national park in Queensland, 373 km northwest of Brisbane. The nearest town is Monto. Three Moon Creek is the name of the waterway that runs along the length of the gorge. The park’s most dominant features are the 70 m sandstone cliffs. Aboriginal rock art on the cliff walls is an indication of indigenous settlement of at least 19,000 year
There are many walking tracks to enjoy including Dripping Rock, The Overhang, Bloodwood Cave, Giant’s Chair Lookout, with views across the gorge, and Fern Tree Pool, a permanent waterhole. Another walk leads to a former gold mine.
We spend an enjoyable week with friends, Alan and Anne, from Pelican Waters. Alan brought his dinghy so most days were spent on the water catching Australian Bass, Yellowbelly and Redclaw Yabbies.
We leave after a week well stocked with fish and yabbies.
It is time to hit the road again.
First stop will be Cania Gorge in central Queensland for a spot of fresh water fishing with good friends from home. Then down to central New South Wales for a week of golf at Kew / Camden Haven – this is the same event we were at last year. A second week of golf follows at Young for their annual Cherry Festival.
Our home golf course is one that was designed by Greg Norman and this gives us some playing rights at other Greg Norman designed golf courses. We will play 2 in NSW – The Vintage in the Hunter Valley and Stonecutters Ridge in Sydney.
Our final destination will be the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. This is a perennial favourite for the Squid, Blue Swimmer Crabs, King George Whiting and Razor Fish.
Whilst in SA we will play another 2 Greg Norman courses – the Grange and the Copper Club.
We hope to be back home just before Christmas.
We move to Bargara for the last 5 rounds at Bargara, Coral Cove and Bundaberg golf courses. Coral Cove is famous for having a par 6 hole. The Bargara Beach caravan park is one of our favourites as it is right next to the beach. We meet up with friends from the golf at Camden Haven last year. Both Siobhan and Lawrie were successful with daily prizes.
So then we head back home after a really enjoyable and somewhat successful for some, golfing trip up north.
The golf at Rockhampton is finished off with rounds at Capricornia Resort, Emu Park and back to Rocky. The Championship course Capricornia Resort is a really good course but, sadly, the resort itself has now closed down. The second Resort course has already disappeared – does not look good for the future for the Championship course. Lawrie had a good round and came away with a prize.
